Tunnel vision with foresight

When it comes to evaluating existing structures, experience, precision and interdisciplinary expertise are required. This is exactly what our specialists have demonstrated as part of a comprehensive engineering assessment. But not just anywhere, but in the Absberg Tunnel in Vienna's 10th district - part of the A23, Austria's busiest road.

Why all this?
If construction is to take place above a tunnel, clear data is needed on the load-bearing capacity and condition of the existing structure underneath. And this is exactly where our experts come in.

Measurements

What was done?
Together with our partners Andreas Ochsner from PORR's concrete laboratory and the company Dibit Messtechnik, our experts carried out the following measurements:

  • Reinforcement scan to compare the as-built documents with reality
  • Taking concrete samples to determine the concrete quality
  • 3D scan of the tunnel tubes to survey and cluster all cracks
  • Recording cracks in the box girder above the tunnel
  • Overall evaluation and preparation of the engineering report

The result: the tunnel is in a good overall condition and is therefore a secure foundation for sustainable construction projects. And also an exciting example of how sound engineering knowledge and modern measurement technology go hand in hand.
