Fire protection: When history meets modern use

Our fire protection department was involved in the renovation of the listed Admiralspalast in Berlin from the very beginning, bringing a keen sense of the special requirements of this extraordinary building.

The historic building fabric required a careful balance between preservation and contemporary safety standards. Fire protection elements such as fire water extraction points, smoke detectors, and sprinkler heads were sensitively integrated into the historic structure. At the same time, the diverse uses—theater, offices, escape room—placed very different demands on escape routes, smoke extraction, and fire loads.

In addition, conditions were made more difficult by the tight urban location: limited space for technical equipment, restricted access for the fire department – and all this while events were still taking place. The fire protection measures were therefore implemented in stages – without interrupting public access.

Our services at a glance:

  • Approved fire protection certificates for existing and new buildings
  • Integrative planning in close cooperation with building services, architecture, and structural engineering
  • Support throughout all service phases (LPH 1–9) up to execution

A project that impressively demonstrates how interdisciplinary cooperation can turn safety into a stage for new ideas.
